Hey team, you may have heard us mention our friends (real-life BFFs from college, hi Maya, hi Walker) who work with the Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). We've posted before about their Timeline of 45's Conflict of Interests--if you haven't seen it, take a look. CREW was the first to make the public call for an obstruction of justice investigation into President Trump. The developing story coming out of Washington that President Trump attempted to interfere with an FBI investigation, telling then-director Comey to end his probe into Michael Flynn, is deeply troubling. Evidence of obstruction is continuing to mount, only further proving the deep need for an independent investigation by a special prosecutor. We're going to ask you Couctivists out there to get behind their initiative to demand a special prosecutor:
"In light of new evidence that President Donald Trump may have obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James Comey to potentially impede an investigation into his campaign’s ties to Russia, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) tonight followed its call for a special counsel to investigate with formal requests for investigation to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees and the House Oversight Committee and called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to refrain from confirming a new FBI Director until a special counsel is appointed."
Call your Senators: If you don't already have your Representatives' numbers saved in your phone (do it, do it) you can reach your senator through the Capitol Switch Board, (202) 224-3121 and tell them:
- You are demanding an immediate investigation into the firing, and
- No new FBI Director should be considered by the Senate until we know there will be a special prosecutor named to conduct an independent and thorough investigation.
- Congress must act to make sure the country can have faith that determined investigators will get to the bottom of these tremendously disturbing developments.
Record the response for CREW here.
