...known in my brain as "Yet Another White Man Limits Minority Populations Act of 2017."
House Rep. Luke Messer (Indiana's 6th District) introduced the Election Integrity Act of 2017 (H.R. 2090), which would require all voters to have a photo ID to be allowed to cast their ballot.
The federal Act is modeled on Indiana's voter ID law. If you are unable to pay the cost of obtaining a government-issued photo ID, the bill requires states to provide the individual with a valid photo ID free of charge.
This is a sweeping piece of law. Not only does it add additional, burdensome costs to states to provide photo IDs to those who cannot afford them, but it will be disproportionately impactful in different states. What he isn't saying is that Rep. Messer is eyeing a run for the U.S. Senate. Does anyone else think this is all political posturing at the expense of poor states and low income people?
GIVE HIM A CALL and tell him you don't support him pursuing this bill so he can get elected to the Senate!
